Healthcare at Home has developed an enviable reputation amongst the country's leading Consultant Oncologists for its provision of high quality cancer services. The company treats well over 3,000 cancer patients each year and employs 1 in 20 of the UK's specialist cancer nurses.
All of our nurses are employed at a senior level and hold post registration qualifications in their speciality. They are fully competent in the insertion and management of venous access devices and can administer a wide spectrum of treatment regimes, including vesicant cytotoxic therapies.
Our nurses are professionally accountable for all aspects of the care they provide and are fully covered by our own company indemnity insurance. All treatment regimes are given in accordance with your hospital treatment protocols or our own evidence-based clinical policies.
All of our nurses are full-time employees of the company. This means you will be dealing with the same named nurses, which ensures continuity for your patients and good communications with your staff.
Home chemotherapy is a safe and effective treatment option that can add value to your existing hospital services due to the increased choice and improved satisfaction offered to your patients.
Hospitals can be allocated a specialist nurse to treat their patients at home and keep them fully informed of progress. Our nurses will liase with hospital pharmacy and pathology departments, other staff and the primary care team to ensure the treatment regimes and home care is complete and appropriate.
Our nurses order and collect the chemotherapy drugs from the hospital pharmacy before visiting their patients at home. Our nurses carry all the equipment they need with them, and all clinical waste is removed from the home.
The nurses will also visit patients in between chemotherapy treatments to manage indwelling lines or to carry out blood tests, avoiding repeated trips for the patients to hospital.
One of the local Healthcare at Home nurse team will remain on call for your patients 24 hours a day. The nurse on call will visit the patient at home should the need arise.
Consultants will retain clinical responsibility for their patients and will review them in clinic in the normal way and our nurses will assist where required in the provision of prescriptions, medication and pathology results.
Innovation by Healthcare
at Home has also enabled bone marrow and stem cell transplant patients to
receive their treatment at home. This range of home treatment regimes is aimed
primarily at combating the various infections (often viral and fungal) that
present following long periods of neutropaenia.
